Abstract

This research aims at to see the correlation between students? simple past tense mastery and their ability in translatingnarrative text in the first year of SMA Negeri 5 Parepare. The results of the research are useful for the teacher and students. The teacher will aware that it is important to teach simple past tense to the students before asking to translate the narrative text and the students also can be easier translate the narrative text when they master in the simple past tense. The subject of this research is X Mia 4 class which is consisted of 22 students. The sample was taken by using purposive sampling. The design in this research was descriptive quantitative by giving a grammar test and translation test. Grammar test consists of 15 numbers multiple choices about simple past tense and students were given a narrative text to translate. The result of the tests showed that there is a correlation between students? simple past tense mastery and their ability in translating narrative text. Students who had a high score in simple past also had a high score in translating narrative text but students who had a low score in simple past tense also had a low score in translating narrative text.

Abstract

Classroom design is one of the important components in the learning process in the school which demands high innovation and creativity during the class. On the other hand, the teacher as a supervisor in the classroom should pay more attention to the influenced factors of the students? interest. One of the influenced factors comes from classroom design or environment. In this case, the researcher found that the teachers in SMA Negeri 7 Pinrang have been improving their teaching methods but they do not concern the classroom design. The objective of this research is to know whether the classroom design influences the students? interest or not in English learning activity of SMA Negeri 7 Pinrang. In doing this research, the researcher held intensive meeting related to designing the classroom to raise the students? interest in learning English and giving a questionnaire to the students to know their response. The result of this research showed there was a positive and significant influence of classroom design to the students? interest.

Abstract

This study is to see increasing vocabulary mastery of the first-year students of SMP Negeri 3 Pamboang through concept mapping strategy. The problems in this research are using concept mapping strategy able to increase students? vocabulary in the first-year students of SMP Negeri 3 Pamboang. This study aimed to know the students' responses toward concept mapping strategy in increasing vocabulary and to find out whether there is a significant increase of students? vocabulary achievement as a result of using concept mapping strategy. This study employed a quantitative research design which is a case study using pre-experimental design which applied (one group pre-test and post-test design). The study found out that there was an improvement of the students? vocabulary mastery after giving the learning process by using concept mapping strategy. It can be concluded that the students?vocabulary mastery is significantly better after getting the treatment. This study also provides a set of recommendation to avoid overlapped researches in education technology.

Abstract

To solve problem in the learning process, the researcher applied an innovative technique to improve the students? reading comprehension. The researcher offered round robin technique as a technique to teach reading. The objective of the research are expected to find out whether or not the use Round Robin technique be able to improve the students? reading comprehension and to know how is the students? response toward the implementation of Round Robin technique in reading comprehension of the eight year students? at SMPN 1 Suppa Kab.Pinrang.The result of this research was expected to be useful information in the English teaching and learning process especially in the reading teaching. This research applied pre-experimental method, with two group pre-test and post-test design. The samples of the research were consisted of 23 students from six classes taken from the population at the eight year students of SMP Negeri 1 Suppa Kab.Pinrang second semester in Academic Year 2017/2018.The result of the data analysis showed that the students? reading comprehension was improved . It could be showed from The result of the t-obtained value (2.391) was higher than t-table value (2.074). Those indicated that H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. It meant that the students? reading comprehension was able to increase by using round robin technique.

Abstract

The objective of the research is to find out the improvement of the student?s reading comprehension after the researcher applies Experience-Text-Relationship (ETR) Method at the tenth grade office administration students of SMK Negeri 1 Pinrang. The research design in this research was pre-experimental method with one group pre-test, treatment and post-test. The population in this research was the tenth grade students? office administration students of SMK Negeri 1 Pinrang consist of 105 students. The sample of this research was Class X Ap2 consist of 35 students. The researcher used purposive sampling because the teacher of SMK Negeri 1 Pinrang recommended this class. The researcher applies 30 items of multiple choice test. The result of this research indicated the students? mean score in pre-test is 34.54 and mean score in post-test is 87.08. It can be concluded that the rate percentage in post-test was higher than the rate percentage in pre-test in teaching reading. This showed that Experience-Text-Relationship (ETR) method can improved students? reading comprehension. Based on the result finding, the t-test was greater than the value of t-table (5.12 ? 2.021). This showed that Experience-Text-relationship (ETR) Method can improve students? reading comprehension.

Abstract

This research was about the problems faced by students in applying grammar on speaking skill at the second semester students at ABA UMI. This research was carried to find out and analyze the types of problems encountered by students. In doing the research, the researchers used qualitative approach which involved descriptive method in it. Then, the data were collected through the questionnaire. The researchers took 23 students as the sample then gave the students test that consisted of 30 items: 25 multiple choice and 5 essays questions.There were four types of errors which were usually made by students of second semester students. They were omission, addition, misformation, and misordering. From the questionnaire finding, the results showed that based on the rate of the grammar problems faced by students percentage total error of omission is 14 on the percentage 0,60%, total error of addition is 18 on the percentage 0,78%, total error of misformation is 21 on the percentage 0,91%, and total error of misoredering 10 on the percentage 0,43%. It is followed by the problems speaking skill with mean percentage, of grammar is 64%, vocabulary 25%, and Pronunciation 11%.In conclusion, problems in the application of grammar on speaking skill is higher, it concluded that the grammar problems still become barrier that affect students speaking skill.

Abstract

This research aimed to know-how is the effectiveness of using Natural Approach to improve students? interaction ability. Students should have an ability to build interaction in order to actualize the function of language as device communication which occurs within classroom activity and create an interactive teaching and learning process so it must be considered to be improved. This study employed a collaborative classroom action research design where the writer and collaborator work together in conducting this study. The subject of this research was the 25 students of XI IPA 1 at SMAN 4 Pinrang in the academic year 2018-2019. This study was carried out in two cycles which conducted in three meetings for each cycle by taking classroom action research phases i.e. planning, action, observation, and reflection. This study was descriptive qualitative research which used observation checklist, interview, and questionnaire as instruments of collecting data. The result after analyzing data qualitatively showed that (1) by using Natural Approach, students could participate in performing instructions and conveying responses during teaching and learning process. (2) They were active in giving feedback, answering questions, moreover, doing interaction within classroom activity. (3) Every class activity of each Comprehension (Pre-production), Early Production, and Speech Emergence stages in the two cycles encouraged them to involve actively in the teaching and learning process. Those descriptions indicate the effectiveness of using Natural Approach to improve students? interaction ability.
